Health Insurance Update: 2017 Changes to Annual Open Enrollment

Posted by Megan Johnson on December 8, 2017

As you probably know, the Annual Open Enrollment for 2018 Health Insurance is now underway. Did you know it is almost over? You have ONE WEEK until December 15th, 2017 to make any changes, enroll in a new plan, or switch from a grandfathered policy to a new ACA compliant plan.

So, what is new in 2017? A major change this year is that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) decided to non-renew their grandfathered books of business. This has caused that group of people on a grandfathered plan to see a major rate increase. Some solutions to the rate hike could be: 1. Are you eligible for subsidy?, or 2. Do you own a small business that is either an LLC or a Corporation? If your answer to either of those questions is “yes”, we may be able to save you some money!

Have we been able to help people? YES! About 95% of the time we can find a solution that will help our customers save money. Most people have consistent incomes and feel they don’t need to re-qualify their income each year because of this. If you are one of those people, please let us help you. Each customer that we have re-qualified has been issued a cheaper rate than what BCBS sent them in their renewal letter.

What does the future hold for health care? As of now, we are operating on the same procedures as we have for the past 3 years. To this point, nothing has changed that the consumer will notice. There have been some shifts in payment schedules between the government and BCBS, but nothing affecting our customers. We will continue to closely follow and monitor the changes in our industry. We pride ourselves on keeping our clients up to date with all pertinent information.
